Tilikum Crossing Bridge (2015), also called Bridge of the People, is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. Its purpose is to carry public transit (bus service, Streetcar, MAX train) and bicycle-pedestrian traffic, while also functioning as a vital emergency bridge designed to modern seismic codes. In the event of the anticipated devastating Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake, most Portland bridges – like the Marquam Bridge (1966) in background – are expected to collapse catastrophically. It is hoped that the Tilikum Crossing Bridge will remain serviceable after such a temblor. Construction was completed in 2015. Owner: TriMet. Architect: Donald McDonald. Designer: TY Lin International. Multnomah County, Oregon, USA.
