Images and photos of a functioning resource protection area. The Bull Run watershed is the primary source of potable water for the greater Portland area in Oregon. It is a 102-square-mile catchment within the 147-square-mile Bull Run Watershed Management Area, lying within the Mount Hood National Forest. The water source is rain, groundwater and snowmelt. Glacier melt from Mt Hood does not reach this system. The Bull Run watershed is closed to public access to protect water quality. Active citizen interest is shown by Friends of the Reservoirs (http://friendsofreservoirs.org/index.html). The open drinking water reservoirs in Portland's system currently violate the EPA LT2 Rule.
